An exciting opportunity awaits a Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) who is passionate about working with children and adolescents. This Regularized Relief position within the Children, Youth & Family Addiction & Mental Health (CYFAMH) program is a Regularized Relief role requiring flexibility to work across five programs at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital and the Royal Alexandra Hospital. The RN/RPN provides safe, ethical and evidence-informed nursing care to pediatric and adolescent patients.
Responsibilities include comprehensive assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation using the Integrated Plan of Care (IPoC). Key duties include crisis intervention, de-escalation, mental health assessment, medication administration, and treatment- and diagnostic-related nursing care. Reporting to the Care Manager and working within an interdisciplinary team, the RN/RPN collaborates with patients and families to support patient- and family-centered care. Other responsibilities include participating in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives;
supporting transitions in care; facilitating access to treatment services; advocating for children and youth across care settings including schools and providing education regarding mental health conditions, medications, resources, and funding supports. The RN/RPN contributes to collaborative care planning, triage activities and initiatives that promote, maintain and improve quality and safety for patients, families and caregivers, supporting optimal outcomes. The incumbent will demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, reliability, and strong collaboration skills.
Note:
This position requires flexibility to work the assigned rotation and provide coverage for vacation, education leave, and other staffing needs across the five CYFAMH Tertiary Service programs at the GRH and RAH.
As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will provide leadership through a wide variety of nursing services to patients (clients, residents) for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, mental health and preventing mental illness, injury and disability. You will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and take necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care, while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta.

Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program.
Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA).Current Basic Cardiac Life Support
- Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Required Qualifications:
Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA) required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Experience working with children, youth, and families is required. Minimum one-year recent inpatient psychiatry experience required. Physically able to lift up to 11 kg, climb three flights of stairs, participate in recreational/gym activities, and safely escort children to a seclusion room, or participate in physical interventions when required.
