Actalent’s general contractor client is looking for a Concrete Foundations Quality Inspector to support on‑site quality control activities for a large industrial construction project in Fort Saskatchewan. This role focuses on rebar inspection, pre‑ and post‑pour concrete inspections, and monitoring concrete curing to ensure all work complies with IFC drawings, project specifications, and CSA standards.
The position is ideal for an intermediate inspector with at least two years of direct, field‑based concrete foundation inspection experience who enjoys hands‑on work in an agile construction environment.
Responsibilities- Perform on‑site, in‑process quality control inspections in accordance with IFC drawings, project specifications, and applicable CSA standards.
- Conduct detailed pre‑pour inspections of rebar, anchor bolts, embedments, and formwork to verify compliance with design and quality requirements.
- Oversee concrete placement and finishing activities, ensuring proper techniques and adherence to quality standards throughout the pour.
- Monitor concrete curing conditions, including hot and cold weather requirements, and verify that temperature and protection measures meet project and CSA standards.
- Complete thorough post‑pour inspections to identify defects, assess finishing quality, and confirm that concrete foundations meet specified tolerances.
- Coordinate with third‑party testing agencies when required, ensuring timely sampling, testing, and reporting of concrete and related materials.
- Track non‑conformance reports (NCRs) and follow up on corrective actions to ensure issues are resolved and preventive measures are implemented.
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive QC documentation, including inspection reports, drawing sign‑offs, and as‑built records.
- Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications to plan inspections and verify that field work aligns with design intent.
- Support survey and backfill verification related to concrete foundations as required by project needs.
- Collaborate with site teams and stakeholders to communicate inspection findings and provide clear guidance on quality requirements.
- Minimum 2+ years of direct, field‑based experience in concrete foundation quality control inspection, including pre‑pour, placement, and post‑pour activities.
- Hands‑on experience with concrete curing and temperature monitoring, finishing, survey, and backfill related to foundations.
- Proven ability to perform detailed rebar inspections in the field.
- Strong understanding of CSA A23.1 concrete standards and their application to construction projects.
- Solid knowledge of concrete inspection and testing practices, including coordination with testing agencies when required.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications accurately and apply them to field inspections.
- Experience tracking NCRs and documenting corrective actions in a structured manner. CSTS certification.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications, including Access, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high‑quality workmanship on concrete foundations.
- Effective communication skills for working with site teams, supervisors, and third‑party testing agencies.
Skills & Qualifications
- Industrial project experience in a construction environment.
- Experience coordinating third‑party testing agencies for concrete and related materials.
- Exposure to survey and backfill activities associated with concrete foundations.
- Strong foundational knowledge in concrete inspection for candidates with less experience, with a willingness to learn and grow in the role.
- Experience in civil construction, quality assurance, quality control, or inspection work.
- Interest in long‑term project work with potential for contract extension or permanent opportunities.
Workplace:
On‑site role in Fork Saskatchewan, working directly in the field on concrete foundation activities.
Schedule:
Four 10‑hour shifts plus an additional 8‑hour day, with potential weekend work depending on project needs. The position runs through approximately November1,2026.
Job Type & Location:
Contract position based out of Edmonton, AB.
Pay and Benefits: $40.00–$45.00 per hour.
