Role Description
PFX Group is looking for a talented individual to join its Analytical Services Team located in Nisku, AB. In this technical role, you will be a vital member of the R&D Team as part of the Nisku Analytical team. This role will primarily be involved in the hands‑on analysis of a wide variety of samples received from internal stakeholders such as operations, quality, R&D and commercial teams, as well as external global customers.

Duties include, but are not limited to running analytical analysis on a number of different instruments including HPLC, GC/MS, ICP, wet chemistry and titrations. You will be required to collaborate with other team members to support the daily operations of the analytical laboratory and work towards generating quality analytical data and reporting. Strong organizational, written and communication skills are desirable. The position offers the opportunity to master a large number of analytical instruments and wet chemistry methods.

The position requires strong laboratory skills and the ability to manage multiple analysis for multiple projects in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment. A person with experience in Analytical Science and/or R&D background is preferred. Job assignments vary; thus flexibility is essential.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum education required is Diploma degree in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry or relevant sciences.

2 years of relevant work experience in a laboratory environment.

Solid knowledge of good and safe laboratory practices, with good conceptual basis in chemistry with proven ability to perform basic chemistry techniques.

Experience in semi‑quantitative / quantitative sample preparation and analysis, physical properties tests such as pH, freeze point, viscosity, acidity/alkalinity, etc.

Experience with characterization analysis using Ion Chromatography (IC), High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) and a general knowledge of spectrophotometry is desired.

Knowledgeable in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint.

Possess strong oral and written communication skills and a flexible approach to work. Must have excellent documentation practices.

Strong organizational, management and problem‑solving skills.

Result‑oriented team player who collaborates well with others, self‑motivated, and has a strong desire to learn new competencies.

Conducts self in a professional manner and exerts a positive impact upon the morale and attitude of other team members.

Ability/desire to grow technically through continued education and learning is essential.

The ability to act with a sense of urgency and manage time accurately is a must.

Plan, schedule and conduct various sample analysis in a safe and environmentally responsible manner and in accordance with the appropriate procedures, industry and quality standards and test methods. Tests may support operations quality assurance, product development, customer support, competitive product investigations and in‑use field samples.

Safely follow detailed analytical or chemical procedures, making observations, recording test data into spreadsheets and laboratory notebooks, and summarizing data into presentable form.

Provide basic interpretation of the analytical test results.
