Position: Protective Services Officer II  )

As a Protective Services Officer II (PSOII), you will ensure the safety and security of the Albertans we serve. You will manage events efficiently, prioritize tasks, and prepare detailed reports on security and safety incidents. A thorough understanding of legislation, policy, and legal authorities is essential. You will collaborate with the clinical care team to enhance client and family experiences while promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace.

Responsibilities
  • Provide security and protective services for all patients, visitors, staff, and AHS property, including violence monitoring, prevention, and intervention.
  • Enforce applicable federal, provincial, and municipal statutes.
  • Conduct asset loss prevention and internal investigations.
  • Prepare court documents and secure evidence.
  • Assess risks and identify hazards.
  • Conduct arrests, apprehensions, and detentions of persons and serve as a first responder to critical events.
  • Provide support for facility departments on security and safety matters.
  • Participate in reviewing and recommending policy.
  • Foster and maintain positive public relations through relationships with internal and external contacts.
  • Implement trauma‑informed practices, integrating trauma awareness at all levels of care.
  • Maintain mental concentration and adapt strategies in emergencies.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Active (or eligible) for appointment as a Community Peace Officer with enforcement duties involving the public.
  • Successful completion of the Alberta Health Services or Alberta Justice and Solicitor General Community Peace Officer Induction Training Program (6‑week program).
  • Valid Class 5 (non‑GDL) Driver's Licence.
  • Valid Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) completed under 4:45 minutes, within 6 months prior to commencing employment.
  • No more than four demerits and no charges or pending suspensions on a provincial driver’s licence.
  • A minimum of two years of related work experience or a related degree or diploma.
  • Experience in uniformed public servant roles or emergency services (military, forestry, park ranger, corrections, peace officer).
  • Experience with in a healthcare setting.
  • CPI Non‑violent Crisis Intervention training and Pressure Point Control Tactic certificates are assets.
  • Current First Aid and CPR Level C - AED certification.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for fostering collaboration and de‑escalating conflicts.
  • Conflict‑resolution, resilience, and stress‑management skills.
  • Fluency in multiple languages and public speaking experience are assets.
  • Training in harms reduction and critical thinking.
  • Knowledge of working with Indigenous people and diverse backgrounds.
