** This position holds the provincial designation of Community Peace Officer I. Peace Officers serve as customer service representatives for NAIT while deterring criminal activity, responding to security emergencies, and promoting public safety on NAIT property.

Employees investigate incidents both proactively and reactively, enforce applicable laws, seek legislative compliance, administer punitive measures, serve legal documents, and represent NAIT in court when required. Peace Officers receive specialized weapons training, including baton certification, and are authorized to carry and use approved defensive equipment.
** Key Responsibilities
*** Conduct routine patrols of NAIT property and provide a visible safety presence.
* Enforce parking policies and procedures.
* Issue violations and warning notices.
* Respond to security emergencies, incidents, and general complaints.
* Carry out appropriate investigative actions related to incidents on NAIT property.
** Skills & Abilities
*** Knowledge and use of security systems, camera systems, alarm systems, and fire safety systems.
* Ability to obtain and maintain the Community Peace Officer I designation and a clear security clearance.
* Skill in exercising tact, sound judgment, and firmness when handling difficult or potentially volatile situations.
* Ability to recognize, assess, and respond appropriately to dangerous situations.
* Strong knowledge of applicable policies, bylaws, acts, legislation, and principles of loss prevention.
* Knowledge of arrest authorities.
* Understanding of self‐defense techniques.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to use current computer software, including word processing and databases.
* Ability to work with minimal supervision and react effectively under pressure.
* Knowledge of and ability to safely use a baton.
** Qualifications
* ** Completion of Grade 12.
* Completion of a recognized diploma in a relevant field of study.
* Possession of the Community Peace Officer I designation.
* Valid First Aid and Basic CPR certificates with AED qualification.
* Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence.
* Minimum three years of strong customer service experience.
* Minimum one year of diverse, related law‐enforcement experience.
* Equivalencies may be considered.
** Other Requirements
*** Sworn as a municipal bylaw officer.
* Satisfactory medical and vision evaluations.
* Successful completion of the P.A.R.E. (Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation).
* Clear criminal record, maintained throughout employment.

Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services (WES), International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) or the Comparative Education Services (CES).
** Classification – Peace Officer Level I - 40
