Assisted Living Alberta Edmonton Zone Continuing Care provides services through five main program areas:
Home Living, Supportive Living, Facility Living, Transition Services and Palliative Care.
We are looking for a Therapy Assistant to join our Home Living team to provide professional support services in the homes of clients of all ages and stages of life. This position works within a team‑oriented multidisciplinary team consisting of various healthcare professionals from the nursing and allied health professions. The team collaborates and conducts home or site visits to deliver client‑centered services to individuals with a wide variety of physical, cognitive and mental health conditions, including complex health needs.
The Therapy Assistant is responsible for the provision of services as assigned by the supervising therapist or manager, working within the required competencies for the role. Responsibilities include monitoring the effectiveness of assigned tasks such as assisting with equipment provision to maximize independence (including education and follow‑up), strengthening and mobility programs, ADL and transfer training, and other activities as directed.
The successful candidate must be self‑motivated and able to work independently with the broader healthcare team and external organizations.
Team Collaboration and Clinical DutiesYou will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech‑language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end‑of‑life care) for all ages as well as non‑client service provision.
This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client‑centered care and participation in care teams.
You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.
Education and Experience- Completion of a diploma from an accredited post‑secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support—Healthcare Provider (BCLS‑HCP).
- Communication and assessment skills to work cooperatively and effectively with the healthcare team members, clients, and their families in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong professional judgment, initiative, and effective time management skills.
- Experience in a Continuing Care setting.
- Knowledge of Connect Care.
- Palliative Care Experience.
Strong computer proficiency (Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint; Visio; Outlook; Internet). Demonstrate typing speed to meet workload demand. Ability to lift and carry medical bags weighing approximately 25–30 lbs. Ability to work in a variety of settings and environments (home environments, weather conditions, congregate settings, single‑family dwellings, condos, walk‑up apartments).
