Hope Mission – Rapid Exit Department, Edmonton, AB. Full‑time, 8 hours a day. Reports to the Manager, Rapid Exit.
About Hope Mission
Hope Mission is a non‑profit Christian social care organization that has been serving vulnerable individuals and families across Alberta since 1929. We provide care across a continuum of services – from mobile outreach and emergency shelter to health care, housing, long‑term recovery support, and programmes for children, youth and families.
Position Summary
The Housing Outreach Worker assists program participants to find and secure safe, suitable and sustainable housing while supporting them with related services that are part of that process.
Key Responsibilities
Receive referrals for housing from Housing Hub.
Schedule intake appointments, complete assessments, and create a housing plan.
Conduct assertive outreach to landlords via cold calls, emails and face‑to‑face meetings to promote the program and arrange viewings.
Search housing, build inventory lists of available units, and liaise with property managers, landlords, realtors, resident managers and other sources for vacancies.
Build relationships with landlords to increase housing opportunities.
Advocate on behalf of participants with landlords and community resources.
Assist with applications, access to income supports and set up third‑party payments.
Work to meet the goal of 4 housings per month.
Administration & Reporting
Complete case notes and assessments to accurately track work and progress with participants.
Perform other administrative duties related to the position.
Attend housing meetings with the team.
Report directly to the Team Lead.
Qualifications
Strong interpersonal and active‑listening skills with a genuine interest in supporting community members experiencing homelessness.
Strong advocacy and negotiation skills.
Ability to work cooperatively within a multidisciplinary team.
Patience and understanding for those with addictions, mental health and/or behavioural disorders.
Ability to make timely, organized and appropriate decisions.
Solution‑focused mindset.
Strong computer proficiency.
Personal Qualities
Strong work ethic, time‑management skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.
Good understanding of trauma‑informed care and meeting clients where they are.
Education & Experience
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, personal vehicle and appropriate insurance.
Experience working in the inner city is an asset but not required.
Experience in sales is an asset but not required.
Experience working in other housing programs is an asset but not required.
Benefits
Members of the Peace Employment Program are eligible to work in a non‑secured role and to participate in a Waiting Employee Support Plan. The role may qualify for the government's Futures Work Plan. Additional benefits may be available based on continuation through annual review and as agency policy.
