Location: Town of Bonnyville
Our Vision:
We envision a region with no new FASD births and where currently affected individuals are well supported.
Our Mission:To establish and ensure that accurate information about FASD, and effective prevention, diagnosis and support services are available in the region.
About the Mentorship Program:The Mothers-to-Be Mentorship Program is a free, non-judgmental, 100% voluntary, mentorship program. The MTB Mentorship program is part the Parent-Child Assistance Program, an evidence-based program whose primary goal is to prevent future births of alcohol and drug exposed children.
Mentors provide one-on-one support to women to have and raise healthy babies. This program is for women who are pregnant, are planning to become pregnant or who have recently given birth and are using substances and want to make a real, positive change for their future. We meet women “where they are at” and support them in achieving their evolving needs and goals.
About the Role:The MTB Mentor is an outreach position that requires flexibility, ability to manage shifting priorities, and frequent travel. This position supports women from marginalized communities who may have experienced trauma, systemic discrimination, stigma, homelessness and/or poverty. Women accessing the program may have concurrent disorders and/or neurodevelopmental disorders. Mentors are required to provide case management to multiple clients who require support simultaneously.
Examples of tasks may include connecting women to appropriate community service providers, supporting women regardless of their personal beliefs or choices using a harm reduction approach. Mentors encourage women to make healthier choices that include their families, partners and other supportive people in their lives and assisting clients in setting realistic goals and working with them to achieve those goals.
