Shelter Support Worker Crisis Services

Support shelter residents with crisis intervention and safety practices at Bigstone Health Commission. Work on a rotating schedule in a respectful environment.

As a Shelter Support Worker, you will support daily shelter operations for individuals experiencing homelessness. The work includes client intake, referrals, documentation, and trauma-informed care. You will help maintain safety, dignity, and respect while collaborating with colleagues and responding professionally during crises.

• Ensure resident safety and well-being throughout shelter shifts
• Conduct client intake, orientation, and sleeping arrangements
• Provide crisis intervention, de-escalation, and conflict resolution
• Maintain daily logs, incident reports, and client documentation
• Offer referrals to mental health and community services

• Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
• Empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental approach
• Ability to remain calm during crisis situations
• Understanding of trauma-informed care practices
• Ability to work on a rotating schedule
