About this Position

This is a permanent, full‑time Data & Software Specialist position located at the Center for Education in Stony Plain, Alberta. The role is a highly specialized hybrid position that focuses on connecting unstructured document records with structured transactional data to drive the digital transformation of our division.

Position Overview

The position functions as a specialized Software Development and Automation role. Embedded within the Instructional Services team and acting as a direct link to the Information Technology department, the specialist will bring full‑stack software development expertise to turn innovative ideas into practical web and application realities. The role centers on people: collaborating with leaders across schools and departments to understand challenges and build tools that simplify workflows, reduce human error, improve daily workloads, and enhance professional practices.

Core

Responsibilities
  • Software Development, AI Tools & Practical Automation
  • Full‑Stack App & Tool Development: design, prototype, and deploy custom web applications, user interfaces, and digital tools addressing operational challenges.
  • AI Orchestration & Workflow Automation: design and deploy custom AI workflows, collaborative agents, and automated processes to alleviate administrative burdens and improve staff experience.
  • AI‑Accelerated Development: leverage AI‑assisted development tools (e.g., Git Hub Copilot, Cursor, LLM APIs) to write, review, and engineer clean code (Python, JavaScript, or similar) at high velocity.
  • System Integration & API Engineering: architect and maintain secure webhooks, REST APIs, and middleware to connect modern software applications and generative AI tools with enterprise systems.
  • Process Engineering: optimize workflows, digital forms, data retention, and automated routing using enterprise content management.
  • Cross‑Platform Integration: write optimized SQL queries and bridge records management with other analytical pipelines to resolve operational bottlenecks.
  • Strategic Project Management & Change Leadership: own the lifecycle of technical initiatives from intake to post‑implementation review, aligning with the division’s strategic plan and school‑year priorities.
  • Predictive Analytics & Data Democratization: build data models (Power BI, DOMO, Data Studio) to provide predictive indicators for leadership decision‑making.
  • Advanced ETL Pipeline Engineering: ingest, clean, and blend complex datasets from disparate relational databases and applications into dynamic reporting layers.
  • Empowering Leadership: create executive‑ready dashboards and workflow tracking metrics to enable data‑informed decisions.
Education & Experience

Post‑secondary diploma or degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related technical discipline.

Position Requirements
  • 5+ years of progressive professional experience in software development, web/app development, database programming, or enterprise solutions automation.
Technical Proficiencies
  • Software & Web Development (Must‑Have): practical proficiency in standard programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, or Type Script with an AI‑first mindset.
