Long haul truck driver

Eligibility and Educational Requirements

Education:

Secondary (high) school graduation certificate.
Responsibilities   Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices, to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
Drive as part of a two‑person team or convoy.
Load and unload goods.
Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials.
Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment.
Perform emergency roadside repairs.
Perform pre‑trip, en route and post‑trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle.
Perform preventive maintenance.
Receive and relay information to central dispatch.
Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption.
Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo.
Equipment, Licences, and Certifications   Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses:
Air Brake (Z) Endorsement.
Driver's License (Class 1 or

A).
Documentation Knowledge   Accident or incident reports.
Dangerous goods occurrence reports.
Driver logbook.
Maintenance and repair reports.
Trip reports.
Other Requirements   Transportation/travel experience:
Long‑haul, National, Provincial/territorial.
Type of trucking and equipment:
Flatbed.
Security and safety:
Driver's validity licence check, Driving record check (abstract).
Transportation/travel information:
Drive manual transmission vehicle, Valid driver's licence, Willing to travel for extended periods, Willing to travel overnight.
Personal suitability:
Excellent oral communication, Judgement, Organized, Team player.

Experience:

1 to less than 7 months.
