WhatYou Will Do
- The position serves as an expert in space utilization and meeting client needs as well as utilizes their technical knowledge to manage lighting and sound systems, and for set‑up and maintenance of technical equipment from microphones to projectors for the Morris University Center, the Student Success Center, and other areas reserved by Event Services.
- The Event Expert is a client’s problem solver and provides technical advice in the planning/coordination of events and determines catering needs in popular spaces such as the Meridian Ballroom, Goshen Lounge, Conference Center, and all other event spaces.
- The position assists in training the student workers required during the event process to be customer service oriented and problem solvers.
- The Event Expert is also responsible for the preparation, maintenance, operation and repair of equipment and materials for events.
FLSA:
Non‑Exempt
- High School graduation or equivalent.
- Any combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the following categories:
- Professional work experience in event coordination.
- College course work in any discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 60 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
- 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
- To be eligible for the role, ensure that your application includes a complete and detailed employment history that highlights your relevant full‑time and part‑time work experience, including start and end dates of employment, and at least three professional references.
- Applications must be submitted by the specified closing date no later than 11:59 p.m. CST.
Extra Help job listings typically close three days after the opening date, unless specified in the closing date. Extra Help employees are appointed to fulfill casual or emergent needs within the university. The amount of time for which services are needed is not usually predictable and payment for work performed is on an hourly basis and based on actual hours worked.
Workdays and hours may vary according to departmental requirements. Extra Help employees do not receive SIUE benefits, holiday pay or paid sick or vacation leave.
Extra Help employees are required by State Universities Civil Service System rules to take a 30‑calendar‑day break after working 900 hours. At the end of the 30 days, you may begin another 900‑hour employment cycle in a new position if available. Working Extra Help will in no way affect any other employment opportunities with SIUE, including your position on and Civil Service register.
There is no guarantee that working as Extra Help will lead to or secure permanent employment.
