Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) invites applications for the position of Police Officer – Lateral Transfer. The SIUE Police Department is a community‑oriented law‑enforcement agency that protects life and property by enforcing university rules, Illinois statutes, and providing safety services throughout the campus communities.

• Patrol University communities (Edwardsville, East St. Louis and Alton) by car or on foot.
• Control and assist the movement of vehicles and pedestrian traffic by physically directing traffic.
• Respond to requests for non‑enforcement service assistance to the University Communities.
• Identify, investigate, and report hazards that might endanger the public safety and/or University physical plant spaces or equipment.
• Assist other local law‑enforcement agencies as needed.
• Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned in support of the department's mission and goals.

• Successfully completed at least two (2) years of employment as a full‑time sworn and certified law‑enforcement officer.
• Either possess certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) and satisfy the requirements established by the ILETSB, or be eligible to be certified by ILETSB.
• The applicant must not have been suspended for disciplinary reasons by the current or most recent employer.
• The applicant cannot have a break in law‑enforcement officer (LEO) service of more than three (3) years at the time of their previous employment.
• The applicant must pass a background investigation which may include fingerprints, police records checks, credit checks, and inquiries of neighbors, relatives, and employers.
• The applicant must successfully complete a screening such as a polygraph, psychological evaluation, medical examination, and drug screen as required by the hiring department.
• Any applicant hired must serve a probationary period of 12 months.

Shift assignments and workdays will vary including weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Candidates must be able to work at all three campus locations:
Edwardsville, East St. Louis, and Alton.

Lateral Service Base Pay:

• Associate’s Degree (0–2 years): $39.37–$39.87 per hour.
• Bachelor’s Degree (3 years): $40.55–$41.05 per hour.
• More than 6 years: $42.73–$43.91 per hour.
• Additional $0.50/hr with EMT certification.
• FLSA:
  Non‑Exempt.

This position does not offer work authorization sponsorship. International students on F‑1 or J‑1 visas are not eligible for this permanent civil‑service position. F‑1 and J‑1 visa holders must be enrolled full‑time and can only apply for temporary part‑time roles (≤20 hours per week) during spring and fall semesters.
