The SIUE Police Department is a community‑oriented agency with investigatory and arrest powers granted by Illinois law.

• Patrol University communities (Edwardsville, East St. Louis, and Alton) by car or on foot.
• Control and assist the movement of vehicles and pedestrian traffic by physically directing traffic.
• Respond to requests for non‑enforcement service assistance to the University Communities.
• Identify, investigate, and report hazards that might endanger the public safety and/or University physical plant spaces or equipment.
• Assist other local law enforcement agencies as needed.
• Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned in support of the department's mission and goals.

Work Schedule: Shift assignments and workdays will vary including weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Candidates must be able to work at all three campus locations:
Edwardsville, East St. Louis, and Alton.

FLSA:
Non‑Exempt

• High school graduation or equivalent
• Possession of a valid driver's license
• No record of felony or misdemeanor convictions as identified in the Illinois Police Training Act (50 ILCS 705 et seq.) or a crime involving moral turpitude
• Eligibility for bonding, if required by the employing institution
• Successful completion of the Basic Law Enforcement Officers' Training course as prescribed by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training & Standards Board. All recruit officers who successfully complete this course after September 1, 1984 must pass the Law Enforcement Officers' Certification Examination.
• At least 21 years of age upon employment.

NOTE: Persons who have not successfully completed the mandated firearm training course, as approved and recognized by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training & Standards Board, must complete the course during probationary period. Police officers are not authorized to carry a service weapon until such training is completed.

• Attendance or graduation from a Police Academy in Illinois sanctioned by the Illinois Police Training Board.
• Knowledgeable in traffic law, criminal law, and civil law.
• Maintain adequate firearm skills.
