Description
Responsibilities- The After School Teacher Assistant participates in learning activities with the children in a supportive and nurturing environment that promotes child learning, self awareness and growing independence. Through the application of a consistent and positive approach, the Assistant helps children manage behaviors and develop appropriate social and interactive skills.
- Works with the teaching team to achieve the program s educational objectives and communicates with the teacher to provide information and offer suggestions about the child s health, behavior and learning development.
- Maintains effective communication with parents to provide a high level of customer service in support of program goals.
- Assists with the food program, including food preparation, distribution and record keeping.
- Substitute Teacher Assistants support the learning program and meet the established objectives for the delivery programs in a supportive and nurturing environment.
- Supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating teamwork.
- Education: High school diploma or GED required, or a high school senior if at least 18 years of age. Must be able to read, write and understand English.
- License/Certification: American Heart Association BLS and HSFA (Heart Saver First Aid) required within 90 days of hire or transfer.
- Experience: Some child development courses or prior work experience in a child care setting preferred. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills and ability to work collaboratively as part of a teaching team.
The Teacher Assistant consistently exhibits the technical and behavioral competencies established for this position.
Work EnvironmentPossible exposure to body fluids, blood borne pathogens and contagious childhood diseases within the Child Care Center. Requires standing, sitting on the floor, crouching, kneeling, running and walking most of the time and the ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
Reporting RelationshipThis position reports to the Assistant Director or Director.

Pay Range: $16 - $19.74
