Description Position SummaryThe Registered Nurse is a member of the interdisciplinary team working in collaboration with physicians. The RN utilizes the nursing care process consistent with their license and/or certification, including initiation of culturally competent continuum of care in inpatient, outpatient and community settings. The RN oversees coordination of the interdisciplinary plan of care, ensuring consistency with the medical treatment plan.
Patient care process includes:
- Assessment – identification, gathering and organization of subjective and objective data (physical, psychosocial, spiritual, cultural).
- Planning – identification of problems and desired outcomes, documented plan of care providing direction for the patient/family/team.
- Intervention – specific interventions or orders implemented consistent with the plan of care and medical treatment plan.
- Evaluation – determines effectiveness of interventions, document findings, and may trigger reassessment and revisions.
- Clinical focus – prioritization of problems (biophysical, psychological, environmental, self‑care, educational, social), goal identification, and consistent education to empower patients.
Employee may be required to perform limited laboratory services, including specimen collection and processing, quality control testing, instrument maintenance, monitoring, reporting results, and maintaining competency.
Licensed and registered care providers document assessment, plan, intervention and evaluation relative to their scope of practice.
RNs support performance improvement initiatives and provide leadership to the patient care team, participating in educational activities and assuming responsibility for professional and personal growth.
Qualifications Education/License- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
- Nurses without a BSN must enroll in a BSN program within 1 year and complete within 3 years.
- Current RN licensure in New Jersey or multi‑state license.
- BLS required.
- Valid NJ driver’s license required for employees in Adult and Child Partial Programs.
Proficiency in clinical applications preferred; skill required within 30‑60 days of hire.
CertificationsRequired or preferred certifications vary by unit (examples below). Where indicated, certification must be achieved within a specified timeframe.
- Emergency Room – ACLS required within 6 months; ATCN/TNCC required within 24 months; 8 contact hours of trauma education annually; 8 contact hours of stroke education (NIHSS) completed by 6 months and maintained; PALS or ENPC required within 12 months; CPI required within 6 months.
- Trauma Bay – Trauma experience required, 2 years preferred; ACLS, PALS, ATCN at hire.
- Harmony Trauma/ICU – 2 years medical/surgical experience preferred; critical care preferred; ACLS required at hire; ATCN required within 3 years.
- ICU/CTICU – 2 years medical/surgical experience preferred; critical care preferred; ACLS required within 6 months; CCRN preferred.
- CVDU – 2 years critical care and CVDU experience preferred; ACLS required within 6 months; CCRN preferred.
- HVU – 2 years telemetry experience preferred; ACLS required within 6 months.
- PCU – 2 years telemetry experience preferred; ACLS required within 6 months.
- Medical/Surgical – 2 years preferred; ACLS required within 6 months.
- Open Training – 2 years preferred; ACLS required within 6 months; CNOR preferred; PALS required within 6 months.
- PACU – Critical care or PACU experience required; ACLS at hire; PALS required within 6 months.
- Intervention Radiology – 2 years medical/surgical experience preferred; ACLS at hire; PALS required within 1 year.
- Cath Lab – Critical care, emergency room, cath‑lab or telemetry experience preferred; ACLS at hire; PALS, CCRN, CGRN preferred.
- Endoscopy – 2 years medical/surgical experience preferred; ACLS required within 6 months; PALS, CCRN, CGRN preferred.
