Full Professor in Sustainable Structural Design

Do you have a strong academic profile in Sustainable Structural Design and are ready to lead the expansion of this research line? The Department of the Built Environment invites you to apply for a new Full Professor position.

Job Description

The new full professor will (0.8–1.0 FTE) work in the Structural Engineering and Design unit (SED) and is expected to hold a strong academic profile and demonstrate excellence in research, teaching and outreach.

  • Research leadership
    :
    Expand the existing research line on sustainable, bio‑based, and circular structural design, and introduce new construction materials and technologies.
  • Initiate cross‑over collaborations with other SED subdisciplines (architecture, building physics, material science) and beyond.
  • Write and submit national and international research proposals, securing funding with the support of the departmental research support team.
  • Supervise master and PhD students as chair of a master graduation supervision committee and as promotor.
  • Lead the development of outstanding education, connecting scientific research with teaching. Teach both bachelor and master programmes, and contribute to teaching innovation (challenged learning, blended learning).
  • Translate research outcomes into industry impact, encouraging entrepreneurship and facilitating the spin‑off of start‑ups based on student work.
  • Take responsibility for section, supervising students, supporting colleagues, and fulfilling managerial tasks within the department.
Qualifications
  • PhD in civil, building or related engineering with a specialization in structural engineering or design.
  • Several years of experience as an Associate Professor at a reputed university.
  • Scientific authority with international recognition, invited keynote talks and high‑quality publications.
  • Demonstrated teaching ability in BSc and/or MSc programmes.
  • Successful supervision of PhD students to a doctoral degree.
  • Clear vision for developing education and modern learning forms.
  • Strong cooperation, communication, coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Administrative, organisational and management capabilities.
  • Experience in acquiring externally funded research projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal English.
  • In‑depth knowledge of parametric design and finite element analysis for structural design.
  • University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) or willingness to obtain it within the first three years.
Conditions of Employment
  • Full‑time position (0.8–1.0 FTE) with a permanent contract from the start of employment.
  • Access to first‑class laboratory facilities: structural design, acoustics, materials, building physics, BIM (VR/AR), robotics, and large‑scale 3D printing.
  • Salary in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, scale H2 (min. €7,202 max. €10,441).
  • A year‑end bonus of 8.3% and an annual vacation pay of 8%.
  • Dedicated mentoring programme and high‑quality training in academic leadership and teaching.
