Building the clinical evidence for a breakthrough in cardiac ablation

Every year, more than 100,000 patients in the US and Europe undergo catheter ablation for ventricular tachycardia — a heart rhythm disorder that can be fatal. Most procedures happen without real-time tissue feedback: the electrophysiologist burns the tissue, ends the procedure, and hopes that the created lesion has reached the source of the arrhythmia. Published one-year recurrence rates run as high as 50% — which is the clinical gap we are closing.

Sonic Precision is changing that. We built a near-field ultrasound sensor into the tip of the ablation catheter. The sensor shows the electrophysiologist what happens inside the tissue while the procedure is still running. For the first time, the physician can confirm that a lesion is deep enough before ending the procedure.

We are a Philips spin-out, based in Eindhoven. We hold an exclusive, worldwide licence to the relevant Philips patent families covering near-field ultrasound sensing in ablation catheters. Of our €4M seed round, €1.5M is confirmed as non-dilutive funding from OP Zuid, Eurostars, and Brabant Startup Fonds. Our pre-clinical programme runs in partnership with CARIM at Maastricht University. Our next inflection point is First-in-Human: the very first use of the device in patients.

We are looking for a Clinical Engineer / Clinical Scientist to build and execute our clinical evidence strategy: we have the technology and a pre-clinical programme, and you drive the collection and interpretation of high-quality data that is needed for approval to go into human subjects

This is a junior to mid-level role for someone with a clinical, biomedical, or life sciences background who wants to work across cardiology, medical device development, and regulatory science. You work directly with the founders and the R&D team: you build our clinical evidence, build relationships with leading electrophysiologists, and turn clinical insights into product and regulatory requirements.

There is freedom to build your own plan and mentoring to support you with it. That means real ownership, a lot to learn in a short time, and direct influence on a product that will be used in patients.

• Execute and update the clinical evidence roadmap: prepare study design, determine publication strategy, document learnings and write reports — from pre-clinical validation through First-in-Human and approval
• Help design and run pre-clinical studies with CARIM / Maastricht University Medical Centre (MUMC+): protocols, data collection, and edpoints
• Contribute to the Clinical Evaluation Report (CER) and Clinical Investigation Plan (CIP) for FIH, working with our regulatory advisors on both regulatory routes for a Class III device: CE marking under the EU MDR, and FDA approval in the US
• Follow the literature on catheter ablation (VT, AF, PFA, RF, cryoablation and other sensing methodologies) and feed what matters into our product strategy and evidence plan
• Furtherbuild our clinical network: find and engage senior electrophysiologists (KOLs) who can act as trial investigators, advisory board members, and early adopters
• Represent Sonic Precision at scientific conferences (ESC, HRS, Europace, EHRA) and contribute to abstract submissions and poster presentations
• Bring unmet clinical needs from the EP community back to the R&D and product team, such that our system optimally matches the procedure and workflow in the clinic
