Located in east San Diego County, the district is 66.3 square miles in size and serves elementary students in grades K‑8 feeding into the Grossmont Union High School District. The district has approximately 16,600 students, plus approximately 800 preschool students, with 26 schools (6 middle schools, 19 elementary schools and 1 preschool). The District is largely urban in nature with some rural areas.
