The Poker Shift Manager is responsible for the overall supervision and integrity of poker room operations during assigned shifts. This position ensures compliance with all applicable Minimum Internal Control Standards (MICS), National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) regulations, internal controls, house rules, and Tournament Directors Association (TDA) rules. The Shift Manager serves as the primary authority for operational decisions involving cash games, tournaments, promotions, and player dispute resolution.
Responsibilities- Oversee all poker room activity during assigned shifts, including cash games, tournaments, jackpots, promotions, and special events.
- Manage dealer rotations, break schedules, pushes, early-outs, and table assignments in accordance with operational needs and internal controls.
- Ensure poker games are conducted in compliance with approved house rules, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.
- Act as the on-floor decision-maker for player disputes and operational issues.
- Administer poker tournaments in accordance with Tournament Directors Association (TDA) rules and best practices.
- Make consistent and defensible rulings on tournament-related situations, including all-in and side-pot determinations, betting and dealing irregularities, misdeals, exposed cards, and dead hands, player conduct, etiquette, and penalties, blind levels, breaks, and prize payouts.
- Serve as the final authority for tournament rulings during assigned shifts.
- Ensure tournament structures, prize pools, and payouts are executed accurately and transparently.
- Enforce all applicable NIGC regulations, approved MICS, and internal casino policies and procedures at all times.
- Ensure proper control and documentation of table banks, tournament banks, jackpot and promotional payouts, variance logs, and incident reports.
- Verify adherence to approved procedures for opening, closing, and transferring poker table banks.
- Coordinate with Surveillance, Security, Finance, and Compliance departments regarding regulatory matters, incidents, or investigations.
- Immediately report and document any suspected violations of internal controls or regulatory requirements.
- Establish and maintain a professional, welcoming, and controlled poker room environment.
- Address guest concerns diplomatically while preserving the integrity of the game and regulatory compliance.
- Coach, mentor, and support dealers, dual-rates, and floor staff to ensure consistent application of rules and procedures.
- Set a leadership example that promotes accountability, fairness, and exceptional customer service.
- Provide accurate shift reports detailing operational issues, staffing, incidents, and compliance-related matters.
- Communicate clearly with Poker Management regarding rule interpretations, disputes, and procedural concerns.
- Assist with training team members on poker rules, TDA standards, MICS requirements, and internal controls.
- Minimum 2–3 years of poker room supervisory or floor experience.
- Working knowledge of Tournament Directors Association (TDA) rules and tournament administration.
- Demonstrated understanding of NIGC regulations and MICS compliance within a poker room environment.
- Strong decision‑making skills with the ability to remain impartial under pressure.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and conflict‑resolution abilities.
- Availability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- (Preferred) TDA certification or documented tournament directing experience.
- (Preferred) Experience working in a tribal gaming environment.
- (Preferred) Familiarity with poker management systems (e.g., Bravo, Poker Atlas, Table Captain).
- (Preferred) Prior experience with regulatory audits or compliance reviews.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to visually monitor table activity for prolonged durations.
- Comfortable working in a fast‑paced casino environment.
