The Director of Staff Development (DSD) plans and implements orientation, job‑skills training, in‑service education, and a certification training program for nursing assistants as required by regulations. The DSD works with the Director of Nursing and Administrator to ensure the highest degree of quality care and also provides direct resident/patient care.
Responsibilities- Coordinate and participate in recruiting and hiring of staff.
- Coordinate completion of and process employment‑related documentation.
- Coordinate payroll and employee benefit programs.
- Relate positively and favorably to residents and families, working cooperatively with other employees.
- Plan, conduct, document and coordinate all required Fire/Internal Disaster and External Mass Casualty drills.
- Maintain a neat, clean, well‑groomed professional appearance.
- Generate enthusiasm and develop a cooperative relationship with employees.
- Use information from Licensing and Certification surveys, Employee evaluations, Facility rounds, and recommendations from the Administrator and department heads to identify education needs.
- Organize in‑service education programs for staff, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Prepare and post a monthly in‑service calendar; maintain records of in‑services as required by regulations.
- Plan and conduct meaningful in‑service education programs to assure competency in new skills, as directed by the Administrator.
- Make rounds and observe delivery of patient care.
- Coordinate infection control surveillance program.
- Supervise staff, including taking or assisting with appropriate disciplinary measures.
- Complete all forms required by the Department of Health in relation to the in‑service and education programs.
- Participate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as requested by the Administrator or Director of Nursing.
- Provide direct resident/patient care.
- Maintain employee/resident/patient confidentiality at all times.
Education and experience: Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing and possession of a valid state license to practice nursing as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Vocational/Practical Nurse (LVN or LPN). BSN preferred. One year of direct patient care experience in a long‑term care facility, plus one year of experience planning, implementing, and evaluating education programs in nursing. Two or more years of experience preferred, especially in a long‑term care setting.
Content skills: Ability to read technical procedures, policy and procedure manuals, present information effectively, comprehend written and oral instructions, and solve practical problems.
Licensing and certifications: Current RN or LVN/LPN license;
Current CPR certification;
Continuing education/licensing maintained;
Good standing with the State Board of Nursing.

- Lifting up to 75 lbs frequently.
