Groundskeeper

Responsibilities

• Adhere to job performance metrics set by the manager, which could include quality of work, timeliness, and other relevant criteria.
• Meet performance standards established with the employee's manager.
• Perform general maintenance and repairs to cemetery grounds, ensuring they are well‑maintained and presentable.
• Operate powered equipment such as mowers, trimmers, edgers, sod cutters, chain saws, etc.
• Use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, clippers, saws, etc.
• Install and maintain sprinkler systems and perform landscape construction and maintenance.
• Assist in burials at grave sites.
• Remove snow from walks, driveways, and park lots; spread salt as necessary.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• One year of experience in a related field preferred; prior work experience in groundskeeping, maintenance, or a similar role is beneficial.
• Valid California Driver License required for operating vehicles and equipment.
• Knowledge of maintenance equipment such as mowers, aerators, trimmers, etc.
• Knowledge of sprinkler systems design and installation.
• Awareness of safety protocols and practices when operating machinery.
• Effective communication skills to interact with supervisors, colleagues, and the public.
• Capacity to work well with others and maintain positive relationships.

• Lifting and Carrying: lift and carry up to 50–75 pounds frequently; occasional heavier items with assistance.
• Standing and Walking: prolonged periods over uneven ground and in varying weather conditions.
• Bending, Kneeling, and Stooping: frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, and stooping for tasks such as planting, trimming, or marker maintenance.
• Climbing: occasional climbing for landscape maintenance or tree work.
• Pushing and Pulling: use tools and equipment requiring pushing, pulling, and gripping force.
• Repetitive Motions: frequent repetitive hand and arm movements for raking, digging, pruning, or using powered landscaping tools.
• Use of Equipment: operation of light to heavy equipment such as mowers, trimmers, tractors, and occasionally backhoes.
• Environmental Tolerance: work outdoors in all weather conditions; exposure to dust, pollen, insects, and noise.
• Visual and Auditory Requirements: adequate vision and hearing to operate equipment safely and observe surroundings.
• Other Requirements: wear PPE as required; follow verbal and written instructions and complete tasks independently or as a team.
