Purpose StatementThe job of General Maintenance Worker is to maintain facilities for students, staff, and the public in a safe operating condition; to maintain a preventive maintenance program; and to resolve immediate operational and safety concerns.
Essential Functions- Assemble furniture and equipment for the purpose of providing items in working condition.
- Assist in building items (e.g. counters, temporary partitions) for the purpose of modifying and/or adapting facilities to specific needs.
- Assist skilled maintenance workers as a helper in various skilled trades (e.g. carpentry, glazing, plastering, painting, plumbing, welding, heating) for the purpose of ensuring efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
- Coordinate with administration and other trades for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently.
- Inspect facilities, systems and their components for the purpose of identifying necessary repairs.
- Install various items (e.g. backboards, serving lines, railings, fences) for the purpose of completing projects safely and within established time frames.
- Maintain tools and/or equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability in safe operating condition.
- Prepare documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
- Repair various items, systems and/or components for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition.
- Respond to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
- Transport various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies) for the purpose of ensuring availability of materials required at job site.
- Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

- Work composition: 15% sitting, 25% walking, 60% standing.
- Performed under minimal temperature variations and generally hazard‑free environment.
- Job‑related experience required.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Valid California Driver's License.
- Evidence of Insurability.
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance; TB Clearance.
