Purpose Statement

The job of General Maintenance Worker is to maintain facilities for students, staff, and the public in a safe operating condition; to maintain a preventive maintenance program; and to resolve immediate operational and safety concerns.

Essential Functions

• Assemble furniture and equipment for the purpose of providing items in working condition.
• Assist in building items (e.g. counters, temporary partitions) for the purpose of modifying and/or adapting facilities to specific needs.
• Assist skilled maintenance workers as a helper in various skilled trades (e.g. carpentry, glazing, plastering, painting, plumbing, welding, heating) for the purpose of ensuring efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
• Coordinate with administration and other trades for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently.
• Inspect facilities, systems and their components for the purpose of identifying necessary repairs.
• Install various items (e.g. backboards, serving lines, railings, fences) for the purpose of completing projects safely and within established time frames.
• Maintain tools and/or equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability in safe operating condition.
• Prepare documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
• Repair various items, systems and/or components for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition.
• Respond to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
• Transport various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies) for the purpose of ensuring availability of materials required at job site.

Other Functions

• Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

• Basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read and follow instructions; understand multi‑step written and oral instructions.

• Work with specific, job‑related data; use a variety of job‑related equipment.

Working Environment

• Physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; significant fine finger dexterity.
• Work composition: 15% sitting, 25% walking, 60% standing.
• Performed under minimal temperature variations and generally hazard‑free environment.

Experience & Education

• Job‑related experience required.
• High School diploma or equivalent.

Required Testing, Certificates & Licenses

• Valid California Driver's License.
• Evidence of Insurability.

Clearances

• Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance; TB Clearance.
