Position Summary
The purpose of the Activity Coordinator is to plan, organize, develop, and direct the overall operation of the Activity Program in accordance with federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, our established policies, and procedures to assure that an on-going program of activities is designed to meet, in accordance with the comprehensive assessment, the interests and the physical, mental, and psychosocial wellbeing of each resident.
OverviewThe Activity Coordinator is responsible for planning and directing the activity program to support resident well-being in a healthcare setting.
Responsibilities- Observe professional ethics in maintaining confidential information regarding patients, families, and employees of SARH.
- Follow and enforce accepted safety practices for patients and SARH.
- Report hazards and initiate appropriate action.
- Participate in safety instructional programs.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for identifying medically related social and emotional activity needs of residents.
- Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the activity programs of the Behavioral Health Unit.
- Assist the Mental Health Counselor in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing social service programs of the facility.
- Participate in discharge planning and the development and implementation of activity care and social care plans and resident assessments.
- Complete administrative requirements, including forms and reports, and submit them to the Director as required.
- Record and maintain regular Social Service progress notes indicating response to the treatment plan.
- Observe resident attendance, mood, behavior, and progress to evaluate facility activities and resident progress.
- Involve residents and families in planning facility activity programs.
- Coordinate activities with other departments and interpret policies and procedures to employees, residents, visitors, and external entities.
- Assist the Infection Control Coordinator in identifying and classifying routine and job-related activity functions related to exposure risks.
- Assist in interpreting social, psychological, and emotional needs of residents and families to the medical staff and care team.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education: High school diploma or GED required. An applicable college/degree is preferred but not required.
Experience: A minimum of two (2) years' experience in a hospital, skilled nursing facility, or other medical-related facility is required.
Licensing/Certification: Qualified applicants must meet one of the following or be eligible to obtain said license/certification: licensed/certified therapeutic recreation specialist or activities professional in Arkansas; licensed Occupational Therapist or Occupational Therapy Assistant in Arkansas; or have completed an alternative training course approved by the State of Arkansas.
