As an Occupational Health Nurse, you will provide nursing treatment of work-related injury and illness and assist in case management for prolonged or complex illnesses/injuries. You will maintain medical records in accordance with established guidelines, perform medical screenings such as drug and alcohol, vision, blood pressure, audiograms, respirator exams, and spirometry testing, and ensure compliance with regulatory and corporate guidelines. You will interact with employees, line management, safety, plant management, and health care providers on health and fitness-for-duty issues.
Key Responsibilities- Work independently of daily physician oversight and recognize when consult with a physician is necessary
- Provide remote and occasional on-site support to the El Dorado, AK site
- Implement wellness and prevention programs in conjunction with Occupational Health, Safety, and Human Resources
- Maintain plant-specific current knowledge of local hazards, toxic materials, and relevant emergency medical care
- Acute care management:
Provide first aid and determine if additional medical treatment is needed - Manage emergency care situations for acute injuries/illness/incidents: syncope, HTM exposure, chest pain
- Work with site Emergency Responders to prepare patients for off-site transport during medical emergencies
- Collaborate with EHS regarding medical surveillance and clearance as well as hazard assessments
- Interact with site HR, Safety, Plant Manager, and Leave Coordinator
- Case manage Short Term Disability and worker's compensation cases to support an early return to work and appropriate/timely care
- Liaise between employee and manager regarding health issues/restrictions while maintaining confidential employee medical information
- Work with employees and supervisors for EAP referrals
- Knowledge of FMLA, ADA, EEOC, OSHA, NIOSH, and HIPAA
- Current NIOSH Spirometry certification
- CAOHC certification
- RN with an unrestricted current license from the state Board of Nursing
- 3-5 years’ experience in occupational health
- Knowledge of fields relevant to occupational health nursing, including substance abuse, Workers' Compensation, OSHA, toxicology, epidemiology, and disability case management
- Skills:
vision testing, spirometry, audiometry, urinalysis, EKG, drug screen collection, and Breath Alcohol testing (BAT), venipuncture, immunizations
- Licensed Advanced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
- RN with Compact Nursing License (must obtain within 6 months of hire)
- Certified Occupational Health Nurse
- Knowledge of Cority, ODG Guidelines, Workday, and Kronos
