- Plan the operation of the department by establishing budget, goals, objectives, deciding on means to achieve goals, and formulating action plans.
- Organize the department by scheduling work assignments, establishing time frames, providing needed equipment and supplies, assigning authority and responsibility, and coordinating department activities.
- Staff the department by hiring qualified individuals, providing work placement orientation, and initiating termination procedures as appropriate.
- Influence organizational members by motivating employees, demonstrating leadership, promoting communication, and supporting a team philosophy.
- Control operation of department by establishing performance goals or standards, evaluating actual performance, managing budget compliance, assuring adherence to organizational policy and procedures, initiating disciplinary actions, and meeting regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Report to appropriate entities expense and revenue budget variations, statistical measures, Quality/Risk Management activities, and unusual occurrences.
- Implement programs, policies, procedures, and educational endeavors to assure quality operation of the department.
- Develop the department and employees by providing needs assessment and education.
- Perform essential functions of Medical Technologist as needed.
- Act as Technical Consultant for outside clinics or physician offices affiliated with Susan
B. Allen Memorial Hospital. - Act as Technical Consultant to build and maintain Laboratory on a Reference Level.
- Develop and support community and physician relationships.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proven leadership ability with management expertise.
- Must be available to work various shifts, 24 hour a day, seven days a week, including holidays.
- Laboratory personnel required to wear appropriate protective attire per procedure and safety requirements.
- Physical requirements:
occasional sitting, frequent walking, standing, lifting up to 35 lbs, carrying up to 25 lbs, eye-hand/manual/finger dexterity, corrected hearing and vision to normal range; must work irregular hours and under stressful conditions; some exposure to communicable diseases, sharps, hazardous materials, and body fluids; occasional bending, twisting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, grasping, overhead work, pushing/pulling up to 75 lbs. Must be able to distinguish letters or symbols. - Use of office equipment such as computer terminals, telephones, or copiers is required.
