Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) – Job Description
Position OverviewWe are seeking a skilled, reliable, and patient-focused Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) to join our dental care team. In this role, you will support dentists and hygienists in delivering high-quality oral healthcare while ensuring a safe, efficient, and comfortable experience for every patient. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, professional, and committed to maintaining the highest standards of clinical and administrative excellence.
Key Responsibilities- Chairside assistance :
Support the dentist during examinations and procedures by preparing instruments, materials, and equipment. - Patient preparation :
Welcome patients, review medical histories, and ensure comfort before, during, and after treatment. - Instrument sterilization :
Clean, disinfect, and sterilize instruments and operatory areas in compliance with OSHA and infection-control standards. - Radiography :
Take and process dental X-rays following state regulations and safety protocols. - Procedure setup :
Prepare treatment rooms and organize supplies for restorative, surgical, orthodontic, and preventive procedures. - Record documentation :
Accurately update patient charts, treatment notes, and digital records. - Patient education :
Provide instructions on oral hygiene, postoperative care, and treatment plans. - Inventory management :
Monitor and restock supplies, materials, and equipment. - Administrative support :
Assist with scheduling, patient check-in/out, and insurance verification when needed. - Compliance adherence :
Follow HIPAA, OSHA, and state dental board regulations at all times.
Skills & Qualifications
- Certification :
Active Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) credential or state-recognized dental assisting certification. - Clinical knowledge :
Strong understanding of dental procedures, terminology, and infection-control protocols. - Radiology proficiency :
Certification or eligibility to perform dental radiography. - Technical skills :
Ability to operate dental equipment, digital X-ray systems, and electronic dental records. - Communication skills :
Professional, empathetic, and transparent communication with patients and team members. - Attention to detail :
Strong organizational skills and accuracy in documentation and procedure setup. - Team collaboration :
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment. - CPR/BLS certification :
Current Basic Life Support certification preferred or required, depending on state regulations.
