Position Description

This position is responsible for providing primary ambulatory medical care. This includes examination of patients, ordering x-rays and laboratory tests to help make an accurate diagnosis, and planning and execution of treatment. The person in this position works in a busy, pressured environment, and sees a high volume of patients, as needed by TTUHSC.

Major/Essential Functions

* Provides physician staffing and support for weekly orthopaedic surgery out-patient clinics held at the Paul R. Foster School of Medicine campus in El Paso, Texas .

* Provides orthopaedic surgery related coverage of monthly hospital based call coverage schedules at both University Medical Center and Children's Hospital of El Paso.

* Provides high quality physician driven consultative services to patients who require tertiary care referral for high acuity type musculoskeletal injuries or illnesses.

* Provides high quality & cost effective medical care to an orthopaedic patient population of all age groups based on a regional standard of medical care.

* Provides staffing and surgical support for orthopaedic operative cases that take place at both University Medical Center and Children's Hospital of El Paso.

* Adhere to all TTUHSCEP policies, procedures and processes. Personally demonstrate, display, and act in accordance with TTUHSCEP's values (Service, Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Advancement, and Teamwork).

* Actively promote and encourage staff across the institution.

* Perform all other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

* Must be certified with the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

* Completions of Advanced Trauma Life Support within 12 months of the date of hire.

* Completion of an ACGME accredited orthopaedic fellowship training program.

Required Qualifications

* Graduated from an approved accredited School of Medicine with an M.D. degree; at least three years post-graduate training in primary care medicine.

* Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Texas or have the ability to transfer license to Texas.

* Certificate or license for prescribing controlled substances.
