SummaryAssume responsibility for tasks under the direct supervision of a certified teacher or teaching team, releasing the teacher from routine tasks. Assist individual students and small groups in academic content areas as needed. Adhere to federal and state laws, as well as district policies, procedures and regulations.
Essential Functions- Assist small groups of students in academic content areas in alignment with the current State Mandated Tests.
- Perform basic clerical duties, filing and copying in support of instructional needs.
- Help with inventory and maintenance of equipment and administrative records/reports.
- Assist with testing and scoring objective measurement instruments and work assignments.
- Maintain records, monitor student progress/attendance and prepare required reports.
- Work with individual students based on needs on a one-to-one basis.
- Monitor and support students in developing effective study habits and basic skills.
- Serve as a resource for teachers, administrators, students and parents on assigned activities.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
- Attendance at the work site is required to meet essential functions of the job.
- Assist in the creation and actively participate in a virtual classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing during regular school business hours to confer with district stakeholders as needed.
- Participate in professional development activities as required by the district.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties; support district department goals.
- Maintain a professional code of ethics and perform other duties as assigned.
High school diploma/GED or higher; forty eight (48) hours from an accredited college or university; have experience working with students and parents. Must possess or be eligible to obtain a paraprofessional certificate issued by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) AND must obtain a national criminal background check through the SBEC website within 30 days of hire. Must be able to communicate, listen, read, write, and comprehend the English language sufficiently to use it easily and readily in daily communication.
Demonstrate ability to effectively communicate with district employees, parents and students.
Must be able to assist in the lifting/carrying of students with disabilities in excess of 50 to 175 lbs. depending on age level, pushing/pulling wheelchair/walker, personal hygiene, etc. Must possess ability, skill, patience and understanding to work with students who have disabilities. Requires some bending, reaching, standing, kneeling, squatting. Must be able to acquire certification in CPR and Heimlich maneuver, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI).
Must be familiar with/able to use OT/PT apparatus. Subject to the district's drug and alcohol screening policy and regulation.
Length of Assignment: 187 days.
