Overview

The Investment Accounting Manager oversees the day‑to‑day accounting for various operating companies and holding companies. The role includes timely preparation and review of GAAP‑compliant financial statements, including footnotes, account reconciliations, variance explanations and various lender compliance and other reporting, as well as the oversight of an accurate and complete general ledger. This position ensures that transactions are reflected in the general ledger in accordance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and company policy.

You Will Do
  • Provide oversight of the books and records for various entities, including the preparation of complete financial statements, inclusive of footnotes, for a sub‑consolidation audit, as well as for operating entities and holding companies.
  • Review the financial reporting packages to ensure compliance with internal and external requirements, analyze reconciling items and unusual transactions, and either explain, correct, and/or clear them promptly.
  • Coordinate, review, and distribute financial reporting for senior management.
  • Assist in the research of complex and subjective accounting/regulatory issues.
  • Oversee timely reconciliation and settlement of intercompany activity/balances.
  • Document, evaluate accounting treatment with VP, and oversee recording of complex investment activity/transactions throughout the investment cycle from acquisition to liquidation.
  • Collaborate with other accounting team members to establish or modify procedures to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of month, quarter, and year‑end closing and reporting cycles.
  • Read, analyze, and comprehend Accounting Standards Updates. Summarize, update, and implement policies for new GAAP literature, disclosure requirements, or changes to reporting requirements.
  • Document the accounting analysis and concluded treatment for significant transactions.
  • Ensure that balance sheet accounts in areas of responsibility are appropriately reconciled with supporting documentation and that reconciling items are cleared promptly.
  • Review team’s work product to ensure quality output is published in accordance with assigned deadlines.
  • Evaluate implications of legal documents as they pertain to significant accounting transactions.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual debt covenant calculations.
  • Document accounting policies and procedures.
  • Assist external auditors and consultants on various audits and tax return preparation; manage the preparation of supporting documentation to ensure timeliness and accuracy.
  • May have exposure to the oversight of enterprise‑wide data integrity monitoring and measurement.
  • Prepare ad‑hoc analysis to assist in budget variance investigation and forecasting.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned; this role has a significant component of ad‑hoc tasks, requiring creativity and independent thought.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting (required)
  • Minimum five to seven years of investment accounting and reporting experience (required)
  • 1–3 years of leadership experience (preferred)
  • Public accounting background (preferred)
  • Knowledge of fair value, investment company guide, revenue recognition, and leasing accounting standards.
  • Ability and flexibility to effectively function and multitask in a dynamic and fast‑paced setting.
  • Strong knowledge of financial statement preparation, including footnote preparation, GAAP, and internal control policies and procedures (required).
  • Demonstrated ability to research, interpret, and communicate a variety of technical accounting issues.
  • Demonstrated strong relationship‑management skills with internal clients (e.g., asset management, senior/executive management, peers, and colleagues); proven ability to develop creative and collaborative approaches.
  • Management ability to direct, guide, motivate, and develop staff.
  • Ability to prioritize for self and others, strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to define problems and organize efficient solutions, analyze data, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Knowledge of Registered Investment Advisor roles/responsibilities and limited‑partner communication/reporting requirements.
