Phlebotomist; Bilingual – English​/Spanish

Job Description

Responsible for the efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors by performing venipuncture, monitoring the pheresis process and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

• Perform all aspects of the pheresis procedure and plasma collection in compliance with SOPs, including donor set‑up, monitoring, and disconnect.
• Perform venipuncture on donors to begin the pheresis process following FDA guidelines.
• Evaluate vein performance, make corrections to expedite donation time, ensure product quality and donor safety.
• Make adjustments to maintain an efficient donation process and create a positive experience for donors.
• Educate new donors on therapeutic products, screening process, appointment system, donation fees, center policies, nutrition and other relevant information; answer questions timely, accurately and professionally.
• Remain alert to donor reactions, assist or notify appropriate staff.
• Use a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) to record incidents such as machine alerts, volume variances and donor adverse events.
• Perform calibrations, verify maintenance per SOPs, respond to and resolve complex equipment alarms or donor issues.
• Troubleshoot equipment failures, create incident documentation, remove or replace equipment from service.
• Monitor donor flow on the donor floor to assure continuous turnover; alert group leader or supervisor of flow issues.
• Collect arm samples or whole blood samples for testing.
• Accurately record donor data in the electronic donor information management system per SOPs.
• Understand policies and procedures for hyper‑immune programs at the center, if applicable.
• Maintain a clean, efficient work environment; ensure supplies and forms are available.
• Follow all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and procedures; promote safety.
• Maintain confidentiality of personnel, donor and center information.
• Be cross‑trained in other areas to meet business needs.
• Use bilingual skills if required.
• Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• Internal CSL employees must have completed CSL Plasma DST training.
• External candidates must have a minimum of 6 months experience as a phlebotomist; 1 year preferred.
• 12 months of experience in a medical or health‑care environment preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical and mental requirements: completing routine forms, oral communication, following instructions; seeing and speaking with customers; observing equipment operation; standing and walking up to 100% of the time; reaching, bending, kneeling; manual dexterity; lifting up to 25 pounds. Fast‑paced environment with frequent interruptions. Frequent exposure to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures and blood‑borne pathogens. Requires personal protective equipment. Overtime and extended hours supported.
