General Description of Position:
Under the direct supervision of the Chief Medical Officer, provides ongoing counseling or therapy services for adults with mental illness. Responsible for direct care to consumers in the clinic and face‑to‑face as required by policy and contracts. Adhere to the recovery model and strive for the successful discharge of each customer served. Responsible for coordination, planning, and implementation of treatment plans.

Must work independently and use good judgment. Follow oral and written instructions, set priorities, and communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • The Counselor will give required child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric psychiatric treatment to patients of the Company.
  • The Counselor will maintain complete and accurate records of all care and treatment of the patients treated by Counselor on behalf of the Company.
  • The Counselor will prepare and submit any report required as needed for the patients treated by the Counselor.
  • Complies with 24‑hours lag documentation requirements as outlined in program policies and procedures for activities (e.g., assessments, treatment plans, treatment procedures, and discharge summaries) and in the preparation of required.
  • Determines a client's appropriateness for services using the DSM‑IV/V‑TR/ICD‑10 criteria for counseling services.
  • Assists with intake documentation as necessary (e.g., consent for treatment, consents to release information, initial assessment, etc.) and maintains this information in the case file.
  • Effectively orients clients to the facility as needed by explaining issues including, but not limited to: rule infractions that may result in termination, the hours‑of‑service availability, clients' rights and the grievance procedure, and costs for which they may be responsible.
  • Uses the appropriate forms and instrumentation to assess clients' strengths and weaknesses. Develops, with the clients' participation, treatment plans to address identified problems.

  • Responsible for rendering emergency treatment to the Company's patients when such services are required during the Company's regular working hours.
  • Will perform counseling services necessary to treat the patients of the Company as needed during the Company's regular working hours.
  • Responsible for reviewing and approving PSR assessments and Recovery Plans to ensure compliance with Texas State and Managed Care Organization requirements as assigned. Approves Levels of Care in the CMBHS system, ensures clinical justification, and aligns Recovery Plans with ANSA/CANS assessments, patient needs, and client goals.
Specific Equipment and Materials

Personal vehicles may be used for consumer visits and company vehicles when needed. Gas stipend provided.

Education

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Behavioral Health field, which includes human services/or behavioral sciences related (psychology, sociology, social work) field from an accredited college or university.

Masters Degree

Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Texas.

Experience and Training

Prefer prior experience in Behavioral Health Services. Required bilingual English/Spanish. This position requires a valid driver's license with a clean driving record along with proof of current and up‑to‑date auto insurance.

Physical Activities/Physical Demands

Sitting 2/3 of time. Stand, walk, bend, stoop, and kneel, reach with hands and arms, twist at the waist, push and pull less than 1/3 of time. Lift and carry a maximum of 35 pounds.
