Position Summary
QC Mechanical Inspector will be responsible for inspection of craft work or work by others for adherence to the owner’s specifications and governing codes or manufacturer’s requirements for rotating equipment and components used in the construction industry. The role ensures equipment and/or components are in good repair and meet construction project requirements. Responsibilities include reading and interpreting engineered drawings and manufacturer manuals, knowledge of API 686 Recommended Practice for Machinery Installation, and documenting inspection activities on approved forms, checklists, or other media as directed by the project’s ITP or SOP.
Responsibilities- Read and understand the owner’s specifications, governing codes, and drawings.
- Perform pre-installation inspections as required including receipt, pre-installation, installation, and bolting, and alignment inspections.
- Inspect items for adherence to specifications, drawings, codes, and standards.
- Prepare written documentation of findings and issue reports. File report in correct sequence or format.
- Visually inspect material and equipment for damage and general workmanship.
- Compare part numbers, drawing numbers, specifications, and revision levels on equipment and material being received.
- Inspect raw/loose material, finished parts, and fittings, to purchase order and applicable documentation.
- Verify requirements through review of material certifications per project requirements.
- Identify accepted items to be inventoried.
- Identify nonconforming items and segregate them from accepted items.
- Collect and record results of inspections by part number and enter data on inspection forms, logs or databases.
- Notify supervisors or other personnel of production problems.
Required Qualifications
- Previous construction experience within the oil and gas industry.
- Good aptitude and manual dexterity.
- Good reading comprehension.
- Ability to work with others – team player.
- Good communication skills with co-workers and supervisors.
- Commitment to Zachry values and safety rules and regulations.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Package; familiarity with other computer packages (e.g., MS Project, Outlook, Bluebeam).
- Ability to read and interpret documents, blueprints, codes, and specifications.
- Current Zachry or Zachry ROF’ed employee.
- Former experience working with Zachry Industrial, Inc.
- Former QC experience.
No direct reports.
Physical Requirements- Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, sitting and lifting.
- Will talk and hear to communicate.
- Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls and tools.
- May be required to pick up, lift, carry and move up to 50 lbs.
- Will work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and may occasionally work off platforms/scaffolding using the appropriate fall protection requirements.
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions (including heat, rain, cold and wind) while wearing appropriate PPE.
- Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/spoggles, ear plugs, masks/respirators, hi-vis safety vests, leather gloves and leather steel-toed work boots.
Work in all weather conditions ranging from warm/hot to cool/cold. Occasional rain. Work at different elevations. May be required to work in close, confined spaces for a long period of time. Noise levels will be moderate to high.
