Lead, Advanced Practice Provider-Neuroscience Services

The Lead Advanced Practice Provider (APP) assists with responding promptly to consults, admissions, and provider rounds (writing notes, orders, wound care, etc.). Enters admission, preand post-operative and consultative orders in a timely fashion. Facilitates preparation of patients for surgery. Assists with surgical procedures after completion of First Assist Certification. Facilitates timely communication with family and patients. Works flexible assigned shifts and is on-call as needed.

Ensures compliance with HIPAA and billing regulations. Adheres to institutional and departmental policies and procedures and supports the CAREs Values.

Work Experience:

Three years of experience as an Advanced Practice Provider with experience in a critical care setting required.

License/Registration/Certification:

Licensed as an Advanced Practice Nurse by the State of Texas

Nurse Practitioner Certified by The National Certification Corporation (NCC) or any other body accredited by the Texas Board of Nursing.

Must have DEA Number, DPS Number, and the ability to obtain an NPI Number.

Current BLS certification required,

PALS certification required for nurse practitioners attending to a pediatric population.

ACLS must be obtained within 6 months of being in the position

First Assist course and criteria completed or scheduled to be completed within the first year of hire.

ATLS ( Advanced Trauma Life Support course) preferred.

Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) or Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) preferred.

Education and Training:

Master of Science in Nursing, (Nurse Practitioner), Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) or a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MS-PA) required.

Skills:

• Advanced knowledge in specialized patient care and evidence-based practices.
• Ability to lead, mentor, and manage a team of APPs, ensuring high-quality care delivery.
• Understanding of organizational workflows, policies, and regulatory standards.
• Skilled in implementing QI processes and improving patient outcomes.
• Familiarity with state/federal regulations and scope of practice for APPs.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration and patient interaction.
• Ability to make quick, evidence-based decisions in high-pressure situations.
• Proficiency in managing multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
• Ability to mediate and resolve team or patient-related conflicts professionally.
• Experience in training and developing APPs and staff.
• Ability to adjust to changes in patient needs, team dynamics, and operational priorities.
• Strong teamwork skills to collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
