• Oversee and provide for the care of zoo animals including feeding, watering, cleaning, and disinfecting enclosures.
• Monitor animal health and well-being, reporting illnesses or injuries to appropriate staff.
• Assist veterinary staff with administering medications and providing treatment, including restraining animals.
• Provide routine care services such as trimming beaks, nails, wing feathers, shearing sheep, weighing animals, and moisturizing turtles and reptiles.
• Record animal information (temperature, consumption) and maintain accurate charts.
• Assist with behavior modification and enrichment programs by designing and implementing reward-based conditioning.
• Provide assistance to other zoo staff and the public, identifying maintenance issues, preparing work orders, and testing water quality.
• Act as lead worker: guide, monitor, train less experienced employees, schedule work, review and check work, and provide input to performance evaluations.

• High School diploma, GED, or higher with at least two (2) years of zookeeper experience.
• Texas Class “C” driver’s license or equivalent from another state.
• Knowledge of animal care, feeding, and enrichment, as well as basic veterinary assistance.
• Ability to maintain accurate logs and reports on animal care.
• Experience in supervising or training staff.
