United Veterinary Care hosts veterinary student externships that let you apply classroom learning in a real animal hospital.

• Must be a current veterinary student at an AVMA‑accredited veterinary school.
• Priority scheduling is given to students in their clinical years on official externship blocks for school credit.
• Proof of professional liability insurance is required. SAVMA members may qualify for no‑cost insurance.

East El Paso Animal Hospital is a large, multi‑doctor, small animal practice in El Paso, Texas. The state‑of‑the‑art hospital offers a full range of services on‑site. The team has interests in ultrasound, dentistry, surgery, and orthopedic surgery such as FHO, fracture repair, and CCL rupture surgery.

Externs actively participate in cases and develop toward becoming a veterinarian. Supervisors provide mentorship. Externs may tailor the experience to focus on technical skills of interest. Expect to be involved in surgical cases, dental procedures, emergencies, sick patient workups, and routine medical appointments. Mentorship is a two‑way street. Externs may select one case per week for research and discussion. Externs are encouraged to be part of the team and engage with clients.
