Responsibilities- Excavation:
Dig test pits or trenches, screen soil, and carefully recover artifacts. - Survey:
Conduct ground and aerial surveys to identify archaeological sites. - Documentation:
Record findings through detailed notes, photographs, maps, and forms. - Artifact handling:
Clean, catalog, label, and bag artifacts and samples. - Data organization:
Organize field notes and data for analysis and reporting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology or Archaeology.
- Completion of an accredited archaeological field school.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to pass a background check.
- Proficiency with GPS, total stations, and digital data recording systems.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Physical ability to hike long distances and carry loads up to 30 pounds.
- Attention to detail, resourcefulness, and a positive attitude.
- Fieldwork in remote areas, exposure to outdoor elements, wildlife, rough terrain, and extreme temperatures.
- Close collaboration with field crews and supervision by a field supervisor or principal archaeologist.
- Physically demanding tasks including digging, hiking, and carrying equipment.
- Overnight travel and extended stays required; some projects may involve camping in remote environments.
The pay rate for this position is $25/hr with eligibility for overtime.
