Assembles, installs, or repairs pipes, fittings, or fixtures of heating water or drainage systems according to specifications or plumbing codes. Performs troubleshooting and repairs of water lines, gas lines, sanitary sewer, storm water conveyance and alterations of utility lines to accommodate new fixtures. May install mechanical control systems. Locates and marks underground pipe, performs inspection and repairs of backflow prev enters, joins pipes using screws, bolts, fittings, solder, PVC solvent, and caulks.
Repairs and maintains existing plumbing fixtures. Purchases and controls shop supplies, machinery, and equipment. Generates work orders and estimates labor and material cost. Troubleshoots systems to determine root causes and implement corrective measures. Implements installation and maintenance of plumbing systems based on as‑built blueprints and equipment M&O manuals. Must be available on “On‑Call” after regular hours, including support for events and emergencies.
Frequently works without direct supervision. Knowledge of chemical composition and TCEQ regulations. Reviews blueprints, building codes, and specifications to determine work details, including ADA standards. Inspects equipment, generates and follows up on work orders. Provides leadership on repair and installation projects from planning to execution. Generates and maintains daily logs and yearly work reports. Generates and maintains plumbing shop records.
Ability to cut and thread pipe, assemble valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metals and nonmetals via approved methods. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, and institutional software. Basic math skills. Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: High School diploma or GED
- Experience: Four years of verified experience in the plumbing industry; ability to obtain a Backflow Preventer License within one year of employment
- License: Texas Journeyman Plumber License required
Preferred Qualifications: Backflow Preventer License preferred.
