Job Description & How to Apply Below

This is a role for a motor-controls engineer who wants to own more than the model!

A growing space and defence engineering company is building a high-performance spacecraft payload and needs someone to take real ownership of the motor-drive system: from BLDC/PMSM control strategy and MATLAB/Simulink modelling through embedded deployment, inverter integration, hardware bring-up and test.

You will be close to the engineering from day one. The team needs someone who can tune a control loop, understand what is happening at the inverter and sensor level, and work through the practical issues that arise when software, power electronics and hardware meet.

What you will do:
  • Develop BLDC/PMSM motor-control algorithms, including field-oriented control
  • Model motors, drives and control loops in MATLAB/Simulink
  • Deploy and optimise embedded controls on DSP, MCU or FPGA platforms
  • Work directly with three-phase inverters, motor drives, sensors and power-conversion hardware
  • Build and use HIL/SIL environments to validate controls, hardware interfaces and fault scenarios
  • Support prototype build, hardware bring-up, debugging and performance testing
  • Make technical calls on system performance, risk, cost and the route to flight-ready hardware
What you will bring to the role:
  • 7+ years of experience in motor controls, electric drives and power electronics
  • Strong hands-on experience with BLDC/PMSM motors, FOC and three-phase inverters
  • MATLAB/Simulink modelling and control-loop design experience
  • Experience taking control algorithms through to embedded deployment
  • Practical electrical depth across inverter power stages, gate drives, sensors, PCB-level interfaces and hardware/software integration
  • A track record of getting early-stage systems built, tested, debugged and improved
Why consider it:
  • Own a critical spacecraft subsystem rather than one small part of a large programme
  • Work in a small, well-funded team where technical decisions move quickly and your work is visible
  • Competitive base salary, performance bonus and meaningful equity
  • Health insurance, 401(k), paid time off and relocation support for the right person
  • A technically demanding build where you will see your work move from concept to real hardware

Space experience is useful but not essential. Engineers from EV, eVTOL, robotics, industrial motion control, aerospace or high-performance electrification backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Applicants must be eligible to work with US export-controlled information and able to obtain and maintain a US security clearance.
