Job SummaryOversee accounting functions for Mattel Global Shared Services US Indirect Tax team to ensure timely and accurate processing of sales tax, property tax, and other compliance filings, verify tax transaction compliance with local statutory requirements and accounting standards, and partner with the BPO offshore team.
Key Responsibilities- Manage US indirect tax responsibilities including sales and use tax filings, real and business property filings, unclaimed property and business tax registrations, renewals, and other compliance filings.
- Adhere to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Mattel Corporate Accounting Policies.
- Perform monthly analysis of GL accounts to ensure proper accounting and accrual calculations; identify, research, and resolve unusual balances.
- Maintain strong comprehension of accounting practices related to prepaids, accruals, and liabilities.
- Evaluate off‑site and internal teams’ performance; align goals and project priorities to meet deadlines, complete filings accurately, submit payments on time, and minimize audit exposure.
- Conduct tax research for projects and serve as the point person for non‑income tax inquiries, providing tax advice to ensure compliance with current tax rates and laws.
- Suggest solutions and preventative controls to reduce errors.
- Lead identification and development of process improvements.
- Serve as the main contact and subject‑matter expert for US Indirect tax during Mattel’s Oracle Cloud implementation.
- Support activities and projects of the wider shared services team.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with Mattel Global Shared Services Americas customers while providing high‑quality, efficient, and collaborative service.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
- CPA preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in tax, accounting, or related fields.
- Leadership experience managing a team.
- Experience working in a Shared Services operating model.
- Experience utilizing major tax software (e.g., Thompson Reuters, CCH, Avalara) and financial systems (e.g., Oracle Financials ERP, Hyperion, Cognos).
