This is a part‑time position (20‑30 hours of duty per week) with no fringe benefits other than salary and sick leave accrual as per the Healthy Workplace/Healthy Families Act of 2014. Police Cadets are non‑sworn personnel and are generally assigned to the Special Services Division of the Police Department. Under limited supervision, Cadets perform varied responsible tasks supporting general Police Department work, and perform related work as assigned.
Though not required, this position provides valuable experience through limited exposure to the various aspects of law enforcement which would be helpful to a candidate interested in seeking a future career as a Police Officer.

This is a recruitment for Entry‑Level Public Safety Dispatchers and for experienced Public Safety Dispatchers, or candidates who have successfully completed, or are currently enrolled in, the Public Safety Dispatcher Basic Course. Under supervision, receives and transmits emergency public safety messages by telephone, voice radio, and alarm signals, and performs related duties as required. Must work alternating shifts including some weekends and holidays.

Under general supervision, receives emergency and non‑emergency calls for police, fire and emergency medical services; transmits information via computer aided dispatch (CAD), multi‑frequency radio transmitter/receiver, telephone, alarm or other communications equipment; dispatches public safety personnel and equipment according to prescribed procedures; and performs related duties as assigned. The Senior Police Dispatcher is the full journey‑level class in this series. This class differs from the Police Dispatcher class in that employees are expected to perform independently, based on knowledge of the City's equipment, systems, standards and procedures.
