The RoleThe Los Angeles Lakers are recruiting a Data Scientist to develop predictive models and advanced analytics supporting player evaluation, recruitment, roster construction and basketball strategy.
Working within Basketball Operations, the successful candidate will turn complex data into actionable insights for decision-makers.
What You'll Do- Develop predictive models using statistical analysis and machine learning.
- Support player evaluation, NBA Draft analysis and roster construction.
- Analyse large datasets, including tracking and biomechanical data.
- Build, validate and deploy analytical models.
- Collaborate with software development and data engineering teams.
- 3+ years' professional experience in data science or machine learning.
- Degree in Statistics, Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Strong Python, SQL and machine learning skills.
- Experience with scikit-learn, Tensor Flow or PyMC
. - Knowledge of cloud computing, Git and large-scale data processing.
- Strong communication skills and an understanding of NBA basketball.
Desirable: MLOps, probabilistic forecasting, time-series modelling and GPU computing.
