Job Summary
$87,487 to $108,701; $102,917 to $127,848; and $113,294 to $140,752.
Responsibilities- Conduct environmental analyses, research, surveys, investigations, and studies to manage natural resources within the Owens Valley and Mono Basin watersheds.
- Recommend actions to improve water quality and avoid resource conflicts that may impact the City’s water supply.
- Analyze grazing systems and recreational uses on City lands and manage noxious weed populations.
- Develop and implement habitat restoration and management plans for watershed and wildlife resources.
- Perform forage inventories and vegetation monitoring programs related to water resource management.
- Provide technical guidance and assistance in the preparation of environmental impact reports and other environmental reports related to water resource projects.
- Coordinate with federal, state, and local agencies in the protection and improvement of the City’s watershed.
- Make public presentations on related resource issues and assist in legal hearings regarding water resources.
- Supervise and/or direct a group of employees engaged in all types of work listed above.
- Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with a degree in plant or animal ecology, biology, watershed management, soil science, fisheries biology, wetland ecology, range management, environmental resources, agricultural systems management, natural resources science, wildland soils, conservation biology, or related field, and one year of full‑time paid experience.
- Two years of experience as an Environmental Specialist with the City of Los Angeles performing environmental analyses, research, surveys, investigations, and studies to manage natural resources.
- Possession of a Master’s degree from an accredited four‑year college or university in the same field may be substituted for the required experience.
- Valid California driver’s license and a good driving record.
