SupervisesThere are no direct reports with this position.
Position SummaryUnder limited supervision, the Lead Small Engine Mechanic performs work, as well as leads a work team that performs work, to repair gasoline and diesel engines used to power landscape equipment, compressors, generators, pumps, and similar machines in accordance with trade standards. Lead also trains and directs the team on the proper use, care, and routine maintenance of all equipment used in the performance of landscape work and ensures inventory of tools and machinery is maintained.
TypicalDuties
- Three to five years previous experience performing similar work required, or a combination of less experience and formal technical training.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, and to respond to questions from vendors, customers and management.
- Mathematical ability including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Ability to train employees in proper practices and procedures.
High School Diploma or GED
CERTIFICATES OR LICENSES REQUIREDThe following licenses or certificates may be required depending on local, state and/or contract requirements:
Valid Driver's License
Physical RequirementsEmployees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance:
- Maneuvering in and around equipment
- Bending, kneeling, stooping, reaching, crawling
- Pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 35 pounds
- May be required to climb ladders and/or step stools
Work is performed at a customer’s location in office, shop, warehouse, or outdoor environment. May require driving to and from worksite locations. Equipment can be located in crawl spaces, rooftops, and outside facility. Employees may be exposed to hazardous and/or toxic substances, electrical shock, noise from equipment, and depending on external weather conditions, wind, rain, cold, and heat.
