Senior Software Engineer

Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our team in El Segundo, CA. You will be a key member of a systems engineering team defining the next generation of space communication systems supporting the U.S. Space Force (USSF). Your role includes supporting Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) activities in a multidisciplinary, collaborative environment, interfacing with SE&I team members, contractors, government civilians, and USSF personnel.

You will lead and support multiple working groups responsible for technical discussions, risk resolution, requirement gap identification, briefings, documentation, and meeting minutes.

• Design, engineer, analyze, and develop software prototypes and/or applications as part of a multi‑disciplinary team.
• Engage with stakeholders to define problem space and vision, determine capabilities and priorities.
• Participate in the complete software development lifecycle: user story creation, design, development, automated testing, and operational support.
• Create intuitive user interfaces enabling efficient data management and system oversight.
• Design and develop new visualization features to meet evolving end‑user requirements.
• Work with complex algorithms to deliver optimized solutions for the end user.
• Determine software maintainability and overall adherence to user requirements with departmental standards.
• Drive continuous improvement through process and tooling recommendations.
• Mentor team members by sharing innovative ideas and industry best practices.

• Security Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
• Education: BS degree in Computer Science or Information Systems; other degrees considered with relevant work experience.
• 7 years of software development, including architecture, object‑oriented design, coding, and testing.
• Strong experience in one or more:
  Python, Java, or Go.
• Proficiency in JavaScript and Node.js.
• Hands‑on experience developing web applications with microservices architecture.
• Hands‑on experience with database technologies such as Postgre
  
  SQL, MySQL, and others.
• Experience with Docker, AWS and/or Azure, and Kubernetes for containerization, cloud services, and orchestration.
• Proficient in using Git Lab or other tools for version control, CI/CD pipelines, and collaboration.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills.
• Strong passion for research, tackling complex problems, and continuously learning and adopting new technologies.
• Organization capability with ability to handle competing priorities.
• Strong interpersonal skills, communication (oral and written), and presentation skills.

• 10+ years of software development, including architecture, object‑oriented design, coding, and testing.
• Experience working with JavaScript frameworks such as Angular.
• Knowledge and experience in Jira and Confluence.
• Experience implementing Agile Software Development methodologies for efficient and iterative project management.
• Experience with MILSATCOM, such as AEHF, EPS, WGS, and Tactical SATCOM or COMSATCOM.
• Experience with space and ground systems, such as satellite communication, ground terminals, and DoD networks.

The pay range for this position in California is $122,000/year to $153,000/year. Base pay may vary based on contract ranges, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.
