2027 Summer Undergrad Software Engineering Intern - Live Ops and Internal Tools

Join the Mattel Digital Studios (MDS) Technology team to build tools that help us support and operate our mobile games. Reporting to the Manager, Publisher Platform, you will collaborate with Technology, Live Ops and Data teams on a focused summer project involving internal tools, dashboards or workflow automation. Alongside this project, you will contribute to other MDS Technology initiatives, with engineering and data team mentorship throughout the internship.

You will gain hands-on software development experience and build skills relevant to an Associate Software Engineer role.

• Build a scoped Live Ops tool or custom dashboard using existing data sources and agreed requirements, such as an event calendar or configuration viewer.
• Develop frontend interfaces, backend endpoints and API integrations for the assigned tool, with guidance and code review from senior engineers.
• Automate a repetitive workflow, exploring AI-assisted summarization or information retrieval where useful, using approved tools and human review.
• Add data validation, error handling, tests and documentation; deploy through established processes under senior engineering guidance.
• Gather stakeholder feedback, refine the feature and demonstrate the final tool with a maintainable handoff to the team.

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering or a related engineering discipline and graduating in December 2027 or Spring 2028
• Programming fundamentals in a language such as JavaScript, Type Script, Python or C#, demonstrated through coursework or personal projects.
• Basic understanding of web applications, APIs and databases.
• Basic understand of cloud platforms, such as GCP or AWS
• Clear communication skills and willingness to collaborate and incorporate feedback.
• A structured approach to problem solving and an interest in game operations.
• Nice to have: experience with Unity

• Experience building a web application or dashboard using a frontend framework, backend services and SQL database; coursework and personal projects welcome.
• Familiarity with Git, automated testing, API integration or data visualization, and an interest in learning deployment practices.
• Interest in Live Ops, workflow automation or practical AI-enabled features. Prior experience in these areas is helpful but not required.
