Balfour Beatty is delivering the civils package on the BBNP project, a major energy infrastructure scheme in the North of Scotland. The scope of works includes bulk and detailed earthworks, reinforced concrete foundations, cable trenches, drainage infrastructure, and the construction of internal access roads, pavements, and hard standings. The project also involves temporary works, site logistics, fencing and security infrastructure, and close coordination with electrical installation and commissioning teams to ensure safe and efficient delivery.
Responsibilities- Undertake site engineering control and implement works on site, including monitoring and reporting progress.
- Perform significant heavy civil engineering tasks such as earthworks, drainage, roads and related activities.
- Live the Balfour Beatty Values, ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm, and support the delivery of CSUK’s Sustainability activities.
- Produce Task Briefing Sheets and contribute to the production of Permit to Dig, including workforce briefings.
- Carry out briefings, toolbox talks and conduct safety inspections.
- Identify hazards and contribute to the development of Safe Systems of Work.
- Set out from primary control points, provide setting‑out sketches, and maintain survey equipment and test regimes.
- Read and interpret drawings, schedules, and specifications.
- Produce as‑built drawings and records for all work elements, complete Quality Check Sheets and provide information for handover documentation.
- Maintain accurate records – daily diary, photographs, and site discussion notes.
- Measure materials used, reconcile with theoretical measures, and report reasons for any differences.
- Work to the weekly programme, mark up progress achieved each week, and contribute to data collection for Key Performance Indicators.
- Produce accurate daily diaries of resources, weekly measurements, take‑offs, and material schedules, and follow through to delivery.
- Understand and record additional works and compare actual resourcing levels against budget, reporting reasons for variances.
- Communicate requirements of a safe system of work, take ownership of tasks, and work on initiative.
- Use setting‑out techniques and survey equipment, report issues with control and information.
- Read and understand drawings, schedules, Activity Control Plans, specification documents, and produce detailed documentation for handover.
- Take off and schedule material quantities accurately.
- Hold a current driving licence and CSCS Card.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills; good team player.
- Experience and knowledge of specification and contract documents, and understanding of additional works.
- Demonstrated environmental awareness and familiarity with Permit to Work System.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and communicate outcomes.
- Desirable: developing leadership skills, targeting professional accreditation (e.g., ICE, IHT), EUSR Cat 1 & 2 Training.
