NHS GRAMPIAN PERMANENT AND FIXED TERM (FOR 1 YEAR) SPECIALTY DOCTORS IN ANAESTHETICS 4 POSTS AVAILABLE FULL TIME, FLEXIBLE OR PART-TIME APPOINTMENT DR GRAY’S HOSPITAL, ELGIN

NHS Grampian is delighted at the prospect of expanding the Anaesthetic Department at Dr Gray’s Hospital in Elgin, Scotland. These posts will be based at Dr Gray’s Hospital. Individualised job planning can be tailored to the requirements of both service and applicants; this could include flexible/part-time/annualised work patterns. Dr Gray’s Hospital is a District General Hospital situated in Elgin in the North-East of Scotland.

Inverness lies 35 miles to the West, with Aberdeen 65 miles to the East.

The Scottish Government have committed to re-establish a Consultant-led Obstetric service in the hospital. This will include establishment of a new resident non-consultant rota tier and expansion of the existing Consultant team to at least 12 Whole Time Equivalent in order to meet the Royal College of Anaesthetists Obstetric Anaesthesia requirements.

These Specialty Doctor positions will have the successful candidates involved in the creation of a joint job plan. This will allow these positions to meet the needs of both service and successful applicants. A generous 1.5 SPA is offered and it is expected that the successful applicants will be fully involved in local and regional management activities. Applications from experienced overseas candidates who have not previously worked in the NHS are encouraged.

The department has a track record of successfully recruiting from overseas with more than 50% of current consultants gaining their primary medical qualification outside the UK. As a small friendly department with a shared office this post would be an excellent introduction into work in the NHS and the local team would look to support and mentor successful international applicants working in the NHS for the first time.

Due to the size of the hospital there are extensive opportunities to get involved in management activities from departmental level right up to national level.
