We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Technical Development Intern to join our Ready-to-Wear Atelier team for a 12-month contract. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in garment construction, manufacturing processes, technical development, and production training within a luxury manufacturing environment.
This is a paid internship, with rate of pay starting from £13.45 dependent on experience. You will be working 38 hours per week, Monday to Thursday 7am - 4pm and Friday 7am - 11am.
Purpose of the RoleThe Technical Development Intern will support the development of technical standards and garment construction processes across the Ready-to-Wear Atelier. Working closely with the RTW Technical Development & Training Specialist, the successful candidate will gain valuable insight into luxury garment manufacturing while contributing to sewing instruction creation and training initiatives.
Key Responsibilities- Create, document, and maintain sewing instructions and technical guides using computer-based systems and software for production teams.
- Support garment construction and technical development activities, focusing on manufacturing methods and production efficiency.
- Assist the RTW Technical Development & Training Specialist with day-to-day technical and training activities.
- Contribute to the creation and maintenance of training materials, sewing standards, and best practice documentation.
- Support the delivery of training and upskilling initiatives for production colleagues.
- Observe and participate in product development activities, providing technical support where appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with production teams to promote consistency, quality, and efficiency in garment construction.
- Assist with monitoring and reviewing manufacturing processes, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Support quality-focused initiatives by helping to ensure adherence to established construction standards.
- Currently studying or recently graduated in Fashion Technology, Garment Technology, Textile Manufacturing, Apparel Production, or a related discipline.
- Strong interest in garment construction, sewing techniques, and apparel manufacturing.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a range of colleagues across technical and production teams.
- Enthusiastic, proactive, and eager to learn.
- Basic knowledge of garment construction methods and industrial sewing processes.
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications.
- Understanding of technical specification documentation or manufacturing work instructions.
- Previous experience gained through education, placements, or practical sewing projects.
