Senior Charge Nurse – Ward 6 Acute Medicine Band 7 | Full time (36 hours) | Dr Gray’s Hospital

We are seeking an experienced, motivated and compassionate Senior Charge Nurse (SCN) to lead our dynamic 30‑bedded Acute Medical Ward within Medicine and Unscheduled care at Dr Gray’s Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to shape and lead a highly committed team in a ward environment that is fast‑paced, complex and often extremely busy, to improve, delivery and maintain high‑quality care to patients with a wide range of acute medical needs.

The Role

The post holder will provide visible, clinical and professional leadership to the ward team, ensuring safe, effective and person‑centred care at all times.

The post holder will be responsible for

  • Overall leadership and operational management of the ward
  • Delivering high‑quality, evidence‑based patient care
  • Ensuring safe staffing and effective workforce utilisation
  • Leading quality improvement, governance and patient safety initiatives
  • Supporting, developing and inspiring nursing and multi‑disciplinary teams
  • Maintaining a strong focus on patient experience and communication with families
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide clinical and professional leadership
  • Ensure safe staffing levels, effective rostering and escalation of workforce risks in line with local and national frameworks
  • Lead on clinical governance, patient safety and learning from adverse events
  • Drive continuous improvement and implementation of best practice
  • Foster a positive team culture focussed on support, learning and accountability
  • Maintain effective communication with patients and families, ensuring compassionate care
